La Geria is located in the southwest of the island, in the municipality of Yaiza. It runs along the eastern side of the Timanfaya National Park. The union of these two significant pieces of land form one of the most stunning landscape prints in all the Islands. It is a natural reserve that covers an area of 5255.5 hectares. It is a unique landscape and intoxicating by the vast expanse of volcanic ash from the eruption of Timanfaya between 1730-1736, which bathe this whole scenario. Surprisingly, this devastating piece of territory is characterized by the cultivation of vines in holes dug in the volcanic ash, where the hand of man wise wind protected them through small semicircular stone walls. In fact, it is the largest vine growing area of Lanzarote. A land so dry, that benefits from the contrast of temperatures and humidity every year to ensure the best grapes, which end up in the tasty wines of Lanzarote.
This area is perfect for a wine route. A suggestive way of knowing the land from which arises the grape and how the wine is transformed; touring the wine route, allowing us to see up close the process of transformation of grapes into wine by wineries registered in the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin Wines of Lanzarote, quality assurance.
